What is Amazon Web Services (AWS)?

Amazon Web Services are a collection of remote computing services offered over the Internet. They offer a scalable, flexible, secure, and dependable alternative to in-house or outsourced data centers. These services include:

• Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2™)
  A web service that provides virtual machines, i.e. server instances, on which the customer can load any software of their choice. A customer can create, launch, and terminate server instances as needed, paying by the hour for active servers.
• Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3™)
  A web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve data from anywhere on the web.
• Amazon CloudFront™
  A web service for content delivery.
